Who we are

We Will Lead Africa (WWLA) is a global network, founded by Yabome Gilpin-Jackson, Sarah Owusu, and Judith Okonkwo with the intent of sharing and inspiring everyday African leadership through storytelling.

By uplifting stories of everyday African leaders — those who lead despite, who on a daily basis strive to contribute to the progress of their communities and, by extension, continental Africa — we aim to counteract the ‘problematic African leadership’ narrative and inspire leadership that imagines, drives, and sparks progress.

What we do

Our work is primarily centred on curating and sharing stories of everyday African leaders, and convening networks for African leaders to share, learn and inspire each other to continue taking actions for a prosperous Africa.

Covers for We Will Lead Africa, volumes One to Seven.

This has culminated in the release of the We Will Lead Africa volumes, which have featured over 150 Africans making real impact on the progress of the continent.

We also host Annual Gatherings and, in 2021 and 2023, ran Griot Masterclasses, through which stories for Volumes 3 and 4 were developed.

What to expect

The WWLA Newsletter is a monthly publication aimed at furthering our mission of amplifying and rallying everyday African leaders. Here, we will share reflections on African leadership, promote African storytelling, and spotlight individuals who are (re)shaping Africa’s present and future. With this, we hope to generate discussions, empower actions, and grow our community of everyday Africans working towards the advancement of our beautiful continent.
